MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION

BEFORE OPERATING THE DEVICE COMMISSIONING-ADJUSTMENT WORKS ARE CARRIED OUT

After purchasing and fully assembling “August ir Ko” PLC biological wastewater treatment plants, commissioning-adjustment works are carried out. Activated sludge from wastewater treatment plants operated by aerobic principle is delivered during commissioning (start-up)-adjustment work. The activated sludge index must not exceed 150 ml/g or be older than 20 days. Otherwise, system start-up time may slow down or the device may not work at all. After re-pumping the active sludge into the aeration zone, the air blower is activated and the air flaps are opened in a way that the AT type plants’ cleaning processes would run in a circular fashion, while in the ATC-P plants the air flow from the bottom would prevent active sludge from settling on the bottom of the plant and decompositioning processes would be actively carried out.

HOW TO MAINTAIN AND CORRECTLY OPERATE?

Maintenance of “August ir Ko” PLC biological wastewater treatment plants is not complicated. From time to time, clean the bag of mechanical impurities, which holds all materials not entering the sewage (Plastic products and other non-corrosive materials). Check if the air blower is working properly and that the activated sludge mixes with inflowing wastewater. After using household care products, you may see a white foam built up inside the unit, it is not harmful and usually dissipates within several hours. Also, white foam is normal during start-up -adjustment works of the unit or after the removal of large excess sludge. Care should be taken if a bad odor is emitted from the unit, which means that the unit is not working properly and requires the inspection of the specialist. The smell of compost or sludge is normal.

MOST COMMON ERRORS

Biological wastewater treatment plants are essentially automatic, however when operating them the following fact should be kept in mind, that they are and they must be inspected from time to time. The most common mistake is the forgotten removal of excess sludge, which causes the unit to be flooded with sludge, all mixed in one container, and the unit stops working properly. In order to avoid this, you should wear rubber gloves every month or less (depending on the usage of the unit) and scoop the water-sludge mixture in a clear container from the part of the machine where the decomposition processes take place. After 20-30 minutes, after the sludge has settled, to measure the percentage occupied by the sludge. If the sludge accounts for 60-70% of the volume of the container, excess sludge should be removed. Another mistake in operating the unit is the excessive ingress of chemicals and medications into the unit. It is worth remembering that it is advisable to wash 1-2 times a day so that chemical reagents do not destroy microorganisms that decompose wastewater.

PROPER MAINTENANCE OF YOUR UNIT (PLANT) WILL SAVE YOU TIME AND MONEY

Periodically inspected and properly maintained maintenance will ensure the quality of the treatment plant’s operation and minimum costs of its operation. Maintaining your unit is not difficult, you just need to complete the following tasks from time to time:

  • Check the operation of the air blower.
  • Clean mechanical grates from non-corrosive materials.
  • Rate the unit (bad smell, dark foam)
  • Remove excess sludge (1-2 times / year)
